Please recommend a good oil to use on carb linkage and slides.

Use nothing on the slides. Use a tiny bit of motor oil on the linkage and where the choke "starter plungers" enter the dust shields. Use motor oil to lube the cables. Use white lithium on the throttle grip. Take a look in the beginning of the Kawasaki Service Manual. It describes where to lube everything (not just carb stuff) and what to use. Ed

You definitely put NOTHING on slides. I used some light grease on the linkage pivots. For throttle, clutch cables I hung them up in the garage and hosed down (inside) from the top with teflon multi purpose spray lube (with teflon).

18 Feb 2012 03:05BS! I think you're missing the point. Don't go by your gut when you don't have a clue about what you're doing. Ask questions and listen to the answers given by the guys that know.Andy Lishious wrote: Everyone has there own opinion just go with your gut youl be okay
Go by the manual, 650Ed isn't telling you wrong. This guy, on the other hand, meh... :S

I was trying to help you get your bike sorted with a set you could use instead of you butchering a good set of carbs.

Thanks guys, motor oil on the starter plungers, that's cool.
NO lube for the slides !!!
I'm in the process of cleaning them off including the WD 40 I sprayed on them to loosen the grim :pinch:
I'm using Simple green and carb spray.
So I'll hit all the linkage with oil and lithium under the grip.
I bought the cable lube and luber tool from Z1

Shouldn't need any grease on the handlebar under the throttle sleeve.
A clean dry fit should allow ample clearance and free rotation.
The grease is used inside the throttle housing where the cable ends and ferrules are located.
Good Fortune!
