tygon gas pipe, doesn't go brittle or crack!

hi kzr's

i've just discovered this new product called tygon!

Tygon® Formulation F-4040-A Tubing
A consistent performer lot after lot, Tygon® Fuel and Lubricant Tubing is the most requested fuel and lubricant tubing for a variety of applications -- from small engine fuel lines to coolant transfer. Specifically designed to handle most fuels and industrial lubricants, Tygon® Fuel and Lubricant Tubing resists the swelling and hardening caused by hydrocarbon-based fluids. This significantly reduces the risk of failure due to cracking and leakage. Its minimum extractability safeguards the liquid or vapor being transferred against adulteration.

Extremely flexible (Shore A, 57), Tygon® Fuel and Lubricant Tubing simplifies installation, even in tight places. It is translucent yellow for positive identification and to allow easy flow monitoring. It is routinely used to handle gasoline, kerosene, heating oils, cutting compounds and glycol-based coolants.

Features
• Resists embrittlement
• Compatible with most petroleum-based products
• Resists swelling and cracking
• Ozone and UV light resistant

q) what is the point of putting lower spec gas pipe on your bike that will go hard
with time, crack and leak!... do it once, do it right!..

i have been using the stuff in the link for the last ten years or so.i got started using it on my banshee when i was racing.

i really like the fact that i did not have to use clamps and it would seal off and not leak.

after several years it did get hard and a little bit discolored, but i figured i had gotten more than my moneys worth from it and did not mind replacing it with the same thing.

i think they have come along ways with the fuel resistant rubbers and plastics.

I've used quite a few different Tygon fuel hose in both rubber and plastic tubing type and all of mine has hardened/yellowed/cracked after several years. I see this hose in question is rated to 165 degrees F. I think the problem is motorcycle engines behind the cylinders is much higher than this. I don't know anything particular to this hose here, so it may not exhibit the age old problem of rubber and heat, but just by looking at the picture, I would guess that it would be rock hard in less than 2 years.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I tried various clear tubing with poor success. I switched to regular automotive 1/4" fuel line from Pep Boys. It's been on the bike for more than 4 years and it's still as flexible as the day I bought it. Here's a pic of the stuff:

I put clear line on mine I got from one of our favorite venders and it has turned color in just a few short months it's still pliable but not as pretty as it was. Tygon is used for chemicals of all blends and seems to have found a home in the medical industry but I am using it on my brake resivoir I hope it doesnt turn colors as it is exposed

Yeah, its the UV. The plastic clear stuff doesnt like heat either, not so much as the rubber lines will handle.

Tygon is cool and works great but it does need to be replaced every few years. Lately I have been going back to black rubber from the auto parts store.
