Also, if you are going to clean the carbs, make SURE you get all those tiny little pilot/transition holes and passages clean. Mine ran somewhat crappy until I got these squeeky clean. Also, be very very gentle with your diaphragms. They are fragile (I never even made a dirty look at mine out of fear they would tear) and are expensive and not that easiest to find.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've ordered some tubing to lead the overflow gas away from the engine.

While I was looking around that area, I saw this thing:

What is it? Do I need to plug it up now that I don't have the airbox?

Dont plug it. Its an crankcase breather. You can put some tubing on it snd route it back behind the motor or you can put a short bit of tubing on it asnd attach a little filter like this one

For overflow tubes from the carbs I use tubing which carries windshield washer fluid under the hood in a car. Cant remember the diameter but it is black, gas and oil resistant, comes in a pack in a 2 metre (6 feet length) and which I cut into 4 and it last 2 or 3 years.

If your bike is an 85 then your carbs may be Mikuni BS34 in which case disregard the jet numbers given above which were for the Keihin CV34s fitted on the 80, 81 and maybe the 82 750/4s

An 85 with Mikuni carbs would be a totally different animal.
Sorry
