Fine Tuning
24 May 2006 20:18
Hi everyone! I'm working on tuning the carb, and I'm noticing a couple things when excelerating:
1) Slight hesitation, then I get going; and
2) Slight backfiring....little pops
What are these symtoms of? By the way, it's a '76 KZ900.
Thanks!

What are these symtoms of?
ONE - Improper jetting or adjustment of the air screws
TWO - Cleaning needed or an air leak; probably in the pilot circuit but possibly in the intake manifolds or vacuum caps.

We are having a simaler problem with our 83 550LTD. My husband is the mechanic, so I am relaying what I understand of the situation. We recently rebuilt the carbs, and have a slight hesitation when reving the engine (as we would do to accelerate quickly on the road) and it is often to the point of stalling. We have tried re-setting the floats, and using 4 gauges to check the vacum in the chambers. We have new rubber pipes from the air cleaner, but the spring clamps are not in yet. Would the lack of clamps make such a difference? Any help would be appriciated.

George,
Can you elaborate on the pilot circuit leak? My bike is running really well but pops on occasion through carbs when it's cold.
I've got new intake boots and clamps and carbs have been gone through and have new pilot and main jets in them... was wondering if I should go up one washer on the needle?
Thanks,
Claude

We have at least three different threads swimming around in this thread. PLEASE start a new thread to discuss your issues if you didn't start this one! Jumping in with your questions muddies the original poster's questions and just causes confusion. It is called THREAD HIJACKING!
I am certainly happy and willing to always toss in my $.02 but don't want to add to Duane's confusion by answering other folks questions in this thread.
