Typically do the 28mm carbs go well after head work? Im stock bore, 4-1 exhaust, street port/3 angle head, pods.
Im willing to upgrade carbs if they become the bottleneck...
Anyone have experience with a similar situation?

Whoever does the porting ought to know the flow numbers for the carbs and have them for the head when it's done.

I will happily swap carbs to match the head, just curious what the flow limits of the 28's are...

Without porting, the head is likely the flow limiter.

Your not doing cams or pistons? I would say your ok with the 28's on a budget build if your not doing cams and or pistons with it. A street port is usually just cleaning up around the valve bowl and not really opening up the ports any. Should be ok and a common thing if you just needed the head rebuilt anyway.

No cams or pistons. Just servicing the head, and figured id get the ports cleaned up a bit.

Run the 28's until you can afford a rack of performance carburetors. They'll be fine. Ported head or stock, a good rack of performance carbs makes a nice boost. Small motor...CRS29 makes a nice all around carburetor.

Do you have early or late Z1 carbs, late Z1R type w/accellerator pumps or 28 mm smoothbores ? The Z1R type are leaner then a popcorn fart from the factory
