I finally had my kz250 running PERFECT, pod filter, aftermarket pipe, half painted, and go to take it out to retest my jetting and the DA*( thing had a hole in the diaphragm. Ordered a new diaphragm and have it pressed into the slide like the old one and now i can not get it to stay in the groves on the top of the carb for the life of me. Do any of you more experienced gentlemen have any tricks to first installing a new slide diaphragm?

Yep... bubblegum. No just kiding, but its the right idea.
Tack it into place with a thin film of permatex black gasket maker and use a heavy object to let it set in place. Then do the rest of the assembly issues free. And the gasket maker will just pull off of both later if necessary.

Make sure that you have the Slide correctly orientated, the small hole on the bottom of the slide goes towards the Intake/ engine. If it was just the rubber diaphragm you replaced this may need to be lined up. Then I take the diaphragm and Turtle Neck it, so it is partly rolled. Putting a finger in the carb bore, hold the slide up at full throttle position, the top of the diaphragm should lay in the groove nicely. Keeping it there, place the spring, then the cover, holding the slide up still. Forefinger in the carb, and thumb on the cover, start the 4 screws, and snug them.
