You can know before you take them off. If the mixture screws have the EPA plugs in them or they have been taken out and the screw head is deep into the carb body then you have the 80 carbs.
I have never had to move the needle when jetting these carbs anyway so I dont see you need to have them? 125 mains and 17.5 pilots and the bike will run great.

They do have the recessed pilot/air screw holes with screws down in. Just took'm off while lunch was cookin. #3 intake boot was folded over(hmm nice!!). I measured carb throat on intake side with digital caliper,I'm coming up with 29mm. Do they just call'm 28's or has someone switched'm ?? I'm gonna do some disassembly later and see what they got for jetting and needles. Thanks---Ken

Yup thats them. I disassembled one and they have 110/15 jets with non adjustable needles. When I worked on it before we only did some tire, brake, and chassis work. It hadn't been started in a while and the cust wanted to do a 4-1 exhaust with pods etc. So I didn't even run it. When I opened up the one carb today it looked like it had just been rebuilt with new parts or they were new. Thats how clean the inside was. Made me a happy camper. Also found it has a nice set of Accel coils with the matching wires. Popped the ign cover off and the pickup plate looked relatively new also. I removed the aircleaner box,and AIR setup as I'm not going for a resto,so I'll be putting them up for sale to someone thats into that kind of thing. I ordered a set of intake rubbers, and I'm gonna get the rigt mains and pilots OTW,but I'll need a set of adjustable needles if anyone out there has a set. Oh and it has the 2.0 slides too. It was a good fact finding day all in all. Thanks for info and suggestions guys!!!!! Ken

I have been looking for some of the same parts. The standard needle 5CN29 is non adjustable, as you have already found out. The Clymer Manual lists several different needles including 5DL31 which is adjustable. I just ordered a set along with the “E” clips from Z1 Enterprise. They are not listed under the rest of the parts for a 1980 KZ1000, See link below for the needle and clip. As I understand it the O-4 Needle Jet may or may not work correctly with this needle, recommended to be an O-6. After some looking I was able to find the correct one from Jets R Us, series 28 again see link below.

www.jetsrus.com/a_jets_by_carburetor_typ...ejet_jets_mikuni.htm

This Jet Needle and Needle Jet will be a little richer that what is already in the carb, but that is what I am trying to get to. I believe someone has already posted that if you can find a Canadian Version of the 5CN29 Needle it is adjustable. However after searching I wasn’t able to find a source for this needle.

Looks like we have a similar combination, only difference is I have chain drive and not using pods. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I did some measuring like I posted before and by what I read on Z1 for identification I believe I have the 29mm.I'm gonna call Rob at Z1 and see what he says.

Ken

Got new info from talkin to Z1. Appearently I have the 26mmfrom what we both verified from pictures and talking. Blew my bubble!!!!1 But was informed that bigger isn't always better in this case cause I'm not going dragracing anyway. I have a number for needles, and found some across country. Just hope they still have'm. Thanks---Ken
