i have the carbs off again, i felt it was about time to replace the float needle clip that is missing on the #4 carb. i am still curious about the float adjustment, the needle valve has a spring loaded button thing that comes out of it. do i set them to where they are pushing that in or where they are out all the way?

appears to have a weak spark on one of the coils, i pulled the wires and set a plug to the motor then put a small screwdriver to the pickup magnet to test it. i am not even sure if my wires are hooked up right on the coil; the red ones are on top.

Coil primary wiring is non-polar, so it doesn't matter which wire is attached to which terminal, provided the correct two small wires are going to the coil.

Some bike models may have a solid red wire instead of a red/yellow wire.

Good Fortune! :)

IGNITION COIL
An ignition coil can fail in any of 3 ways. It
can develop an open circuit (broken wire) in
the primary windings or the secondary windings,
in which case the coil won't function at
all, or it can develop a partial short circuit,
arcing to bridge some of the secondary windings.
If that happens, the coil will generate
weak sparks at the electrodes of the spark plug.
Removal/Installation
1, Turn Ihe ignition switch off.
2, Remove the fuel tank; see Fuel Tank Removal
in Chapter Seven.
3, Disconnect the leads to the ignition coils,
4, Remove the coil mounting bolts and the
coils (Figure 12).
5, Install by reversing the removal steps. Note
the following:
a. The red leads go to the positive (-9 coil
terminals. The green wire goes to. the left
coil and the hlack wire goes to the right
coil,

b. Be sure to connect the spark plug leads to
the correct spark plug, starting with No. 1
on the left.
