I believe stock bikes include a clip to hold the clutch cable away from the exhaust header.

Yes they do! The cable that was on it had ~14K miles and was routed for the stock exhaust. I replaced it yesterday and routed it over the lower frame cross section rather than under it and it looked to be routed sufficiently away from the new header.
This is one cooked cable.
It looks good now. (taken yesterday):

Id try to richen it up with the air screws or go up one size on the pilots.
