Carb Support when Running PODS? was created by clutch
So, I've been reading a lot of threads about pods since I run them on my bike. While I have no issues with performance, I have noticed a lot of posts saying that the carbs should be supported when running pods to avoid damage to the engine. I've been thinking of fabricating a support system using a heavy duty spring or two (left overs from a different project), but was wondering what others running pods have done to support them?

They do need some kind of support. I would think some kind of sprung support would be better that fixed metal to avoid severe vibration. Might even try thick rubber block type supports.

Yeah, I was thinking a good spring or two would support and have that little extra give to avoid shaking parts loose! And I was always taught that real men don't use rubber! LOL!

I used a thick flat rubber bungie type strap over the frame and under the gastank and the hooks just go around the bar or rail or whatever it's called to which the individual carbs are bolted. Trick was to find the right length bungie.

This sounds like an easy and a good way to do it. Do you have a pic or two you can post?

I haven't either (yet), but I figure since so many bring it up, it might not be a bad idea. Though mine are solid in place...can't really move them around by hand the way they are.

Here's a picture of the strap. It says 10 inch on it. I measured and it is 10 inch from hole centre to hole centre. I ran the carbs unsupported for 6 years and then one day noticed cracks in the boots. The boots were probably the originals so I cant say the lack of support was the cause. I used the strap for another year then replaced the boots, removed the pods and put an airbox on....... not because of any issues. Just moving to a more stock look.

I've gone many years without any support, but the 550 carbs are pretty light compared to the 750 carbs.
