Ok so I really want to clean up my cafe project and I have read enough to keep me from going to pods.
I also hate the side draft stall pods will give you. So has anyone ever used something other than pods, velocity stacks or stock air box?
Like a campbells soup can? It seem doable and adjustable if you found the right combination. chicken noodle/tomato lol
Why not a cone filter?
Why not a coffee can? Kinda fits the whole cafe thing

If its a waste of time I will probably still try but I am tired of pod filters and my airbox leaks like a colander.
Ideas? Suggestions ?

Fun ride, but it was bugging me a little that the tach wasn't working. LOL!

Not sure about running soup cans, but I run pods on my 750 E3 with no problems.

Basically you need to collect cool air in one source and feed it to all four carbs from that one source without influencing one carb more or less than the others. I think the Japs did it best of everyone. Is it a PITA? Yes. Pods, love them or hate them. You can make them out of unobtanium and stencil puppy faces on them and they will still be pods and still perform like pods. Some people have no problem with this. Biggest problem's are getting your airbox off, buying pods, installing pods, bracing pods, tweeking pods, tweeking pods, tweeking pods, tweeking pods, pulling pods, re-installing airbox if you can find it or getting new one if you destroyed it and then getting all the settings squared away again. AND then someone pops up and states they run pods with no problems on a similar bike. Most of the time they say things like I love my pods, my bike runs great ....unless there is wind or I try and pass a big truck or it's raining or I forgot to brace my carbs with pods and wrecked my engine connectors from them hanging on them. I would also ask you why your airbox is leaking like a colander?

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

Ive had really good success with velocity stacks. They seem to be the cat's meow over in Japanland, especially at all the famous Z1 custom shops. The CR carbs I used to have on my old KZ650 actually came with matching CR velo stacks. I installed little mesh screens over them to prevent bugs from getting in there, and never looked back. I am in favor of keeping the airbox if you are running the original carbs, but if you want that true cafe look, velo stacks for sure.

Cobura, wouldn't running velocity stacks fulltime pose an issue with accelerated wear on your engine because of the extra dust and crude getting in? If you only ride the bike here and there and at the track, but if it's a daily rider and you want reliability, I would think a filter of some sort would be the best bet? Just my thoughts...

Also, VW, doesn't that extra key bouncing around bug the hell out of you? haha... I lost my 550 key that way...the key can come out with the ignition on... got to where I was going and couldn't turn the ignition off....
