KZ750 Twin on Pods & Opened Pipes
10 Oct 2011 18:38
Firstly, will i be able to get it to run right?, or will i be able to get the jets to make it run right?
The reason i ask is this, i have a choice to look about some Mikuni TM36-2 Flat Slide Carburetor's (after searching this seems to be popular), but i dont really want to if the originals will run well enough. Do any other bike's carbs fit that will save me having to buy these?
I was going to get my carbs ultrasonically cleaned & get a rebuild kit for each one (do i need to do this??), the outside i would like to get vapour blasted to make them look a bit better.
Thing is, if i do all i want to the originals it might be more cost effective to get the Mikuni's? I knoe the Mikuni's will be slightly more but if i recon the originals & they cant/dont run right then im back to square 1 anyway.
If the Mikuni's are the best option how do i pair them up so yhey work together like the original setup?
PS. Incase you havent already gathered i know nothing about carbs, especially these ones! & i dont have the money to just spend & hope they work.

I found a good source for jets here in the UK so im happy that i'll be able to keep my original carbs. They're away to get untrasonically cleaned & then vapour blasted, cant wait to see them finished.
I know stock is supposed to be a #45 pilot & #125 main jet, with my mods what should i go up to to try 1st?, i was thinking a #50 pilot & #135 main. Is that a goos starting point, too much or not enough?

Thank you for your advice. You seem to be a huge fan of using the original airbox.

13 Oct 2011 02:53Yeah< I spent a chink of time wasted screwing with my carburetors when I had to install new pistons that didn't match the originals exactly.750steve wrote: Thank you for your advice. You seem to be a huge fan of using the original airbox.
Chucking the airbox really opens a can of worms.
BTW: you need to provide some mechanical support for the back end of the carbs without the airbox. The weight and vibration will crack the intake manifolds over time.

Yes, i seen you had posted that before in a search i done, some good advice there! I'm goung to bolt an Aluminium strap to where the 2 carbs are joined by the top piece of metal, it will go up to the thick piece of the main frame & i will either install a rivet nut or a large screw clip around it to secure the strap.
