pods? vs. Airbox? was created by Goalieguy35
Hi, i put pods on a kz 750 i had and it would choke out at about 5,000 rpm. I sold it so its besides the point. But i bought a 76 kz900 and the air box boots are hard and weak and some holes in them, ive seen before the pod "boxs" which cover carbs 1 and 2 then theres another pod "box" for 3 and 4. People have said that because the firing order is 1243 that cycinder 2 robs 3 of air on compression stroke or something like that. i was wondering if anyone knows where to get those pod "boxs" which are one individual filter that goes on carbs 1 and 2 and another one seperate for 3 and 4. so its 2 fiters for 4 carbs. I heard those are the best so id like to see feed back on those, and a place to get them. Thanks!

Get new boots. Do a search of your pods vs airbox title and get ready for some reading. The question has been eternally answered and asked. As for your 2 pod wuestion. I have never seen them but that is not saying they don't exist. But I also have to figure if they worked then these guys would be all over them. But best do a search here about the subject before doing anything. Gluck

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

I've seen those type air filters before but I have no idea where to get them.

Your airbox is really the best thing for your engine. The price of the boots will be the same or even less than a good set of pods, so why not just keep it stock?

I think the new replacement boots will be MUCH cheaper than pods. Pick up a set at Z1enterprises.com

Pods get wet in the rain, but a bike with the factory air box and filter rarely has running problems(other than the electricals getting wet). Pods are sensitive to side drafts and can have you stuck in the endless jet and needle clip adjustment.

For your particular situation I'd just replace the boots. The two carbs on one pod is the GSXR dual K&N I believe, can't remember what year, etc but I thought a couple of members here have them on their bikes.

Do a search. Your question has already been asked a million times. You will be reading until your eyes bleed and fall out. For every single "pods success" story you will read 20 pod "horror stories" . The guys that have good pod sucess are veteran expert level experienced engine tuners. For The other 80% of us are novices, pods are a complete waste of time and money. So read up and make your own decision.
