I need to adjust the idle on my wife's bike because its like so low(600-700 RPM) it will barely stay started and wants to stall when you put the clutch in to shift gears. I'm pretty sure the dealership adjusted it when we took it in for the inspection, and they didn't know what it should be idling at. About what RPM should this bike idle at? And if anyone can point me in the right direction for adjusting the idle with directions that someone with no mechanical skills can follow it would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.

The Throttle Stop Screw is shown as #37 on the diagram found at kawsaki.com (see image below).

Lots of good info on kawasaki.com, including parts diagrams, part numbers, models sharing same part, availability, etc.

Here's a link for help with navigating the site and finding information.

Hi Mike,

Not sure if you have found a solution to your problem yet, but I just had a scan of my manual and couldn't find a specific RPM it should be idling at. The manual suggests that there is something wrong with the pilot system, which is responsible for supplying fuel at idling at low speeds. Hope that helps somewhat?

I don't remember what I had mine set at (haven't had the 250 for 2 1/2 years now :( ), but on a quick search I found this site:

www.zedder.com/Info/80%20KZ250-D1%20LTD.htm

They list the idle speed at 1250rpm. Seems a little high to me though...

EDIT: Confirmed from a few other online sources that idle should be between 1200-1300rpm
