Any body ever heard of this carb? was created by Kitten Tooth
Hey guys, i just got a free Harley Davidson carburetor i think. It seems older, early mid 70's maybe. its a Bendix Zenith carb. I'm sure there are different kinds of this carburetor but i dont know what series this is. I took the bowl off to check for that horrible white corrosion and found that it was surprisingly clean inside. All i did was clean up the gasket surfaces where the carb goes to a manifold looking thing. I Think its a 38mm bore and i wanted to try the single carb mod on my dad's 76' KZ400 cafe. The carburetor looks complete minus the breather assy. All butterflies move freely and i would consider it functional if i had a motor for it. If it wont work on the KZ400, im gonna make it fit a 5 horse briggs just for fun :P That or sell it on ebay. Let me know what you guys know about it :)

Thanks guys,
KT

It fits under my air cleaner!
Were on harley sportsters and 1200's from 1968 to 1976
Simple basic carb.
Way to big for a B/S 5hp.
It was popular for 4 cyl turbo engines.

hmmm, maybe i better get to work making a manifold for my KZ1000 XD i know its probably too big for a briggs, it would just be something to keep me busy. you think 38mm is too big for a 400cc twin? And that is a very nice harley. CLEAN!!! my bike needs a bath and a new valve cover gasket, Theres grease all over the front of the motor :)

Well, i did find a problem. The accelerator pump on mine doesnt look like the ones in the pictures. Im sure i need a new one. The sealer thingy that goes down into the bowl is all dried out. I found 1 for 7 bucks.

sell it, the trouble to make it work on a kaw is way more trouble than its worth, there are alot of people that will want it though for the right price,z1k is right on, they work on the ironheads especially, better fuel mileage than the S and S and easier to tune

Just throw it away before it starts making you bike leak oil.

the keihin cv carbs off later model sportsters are popular to use.
you want the one that does not have the throttle position sensor on it tho.

harley used the cv on everything from 500cc singles up to 88ci. twins.they are very adaptable.

The only reason i want to change the carbs out is because that little bastard of a twin doesnt run right for some reason when its warmed up. It could be the battery since its got such a low charge that it wont crank but im not sure. plus i think the intake boots are cracked so i was just gonna fab a plate to mount the copper intake. I have another carb that i could use that is off a 1980 Yamaha MX100 dirtbike but im not sure what size the carb bore is.
