What fuel line to use for aftermarket petcock?

I bought this petcock from Z1 Enterprises: www.z1enterprises.com/Petcock--Single-Ou...-Left-Side-4521.aspx
and it seems like a great alternative to Pingels, which cost about $100.

Now I realize the bung is 5/16" vs. 1/4" for normal petcocks on a KZ. I tried pushing the standard fuel line on it and I think the line might split. Alternate plans are to see if there's a reducer fitting that goes from 5/16" down to 1/4" (anybody seen one?) or grind down the edge of the bung on the petcock to get the fuel line on easier and then use a hose clamp to keep the fuel line on.

Who's come up with a good solution for this?

Something like this may be of interest:

Likely available at hardware stores.

Good Fortune! :)

I went to O'Reilly's and they didn't have one. So I ordered on the Ribet website and the UPS charge to HI was $22 for a $4 part. Next I e-mailed and asked if they will ship it by US postal.

Maybe I'll check the local hardware stores as Patton suggests.

I've put 1/4 inch black fuel line on a fuel filter with 5/16 inlet and outlet without much bother. The reducer in Patton's post looks good. You could also run a bit of fine emory paper around the barb on the petcock to make it a bit smaller but if you try this just be carefull and dont remove to much brass.

Can try soaking the end of the 1/4" line for a few moments in near boiling water to soften it just before pushing it onto the larger barb.

Sometimes this works so well that a clamp isn't needed.

Good Fortune! :)

Heat gun for peeling paint or a hair blow dryer on high to soften it up first? I've used both with good results.

Plenty of fuel filters have more than one size on the connections, also some have replaceable fittings on the in/ out connections. Just make sure you get a filter that will be OK with a gravity feed system, or you could restrict the flow and empty out you fuel bowls.

The local NAPA made an adapter for me from three brass pieces for about $6 bucks. Next I looked for fuel line and found 5/16 inch for motorcycles is not that common. I would imagine the Harley dealer sells it but then a foot will probably cost $10 bucks.

I'm liking the idea of sanding down the barb on the petcock, warming up the 1/4 inch fuel line and seeing if it will fit.

Thanks, Mike

That's likely pretty good quality fuel line at the HD dealership, and perhaps not all that over-priced.

I'd check on it.

Some of the HD accessories are quite good.

Good Fortune! :)
