Need to buy carbs for my project. Which will definitely not run an airbox. It will have a set of headers and a mostly open muffler. Also a bigbore is in the works, around 1100 cc's, other wise a stock setup. So my big question is of all the different options for stock carbs, which work the best? What year am I looking for in that Ebay description? Aftermarket carbs would be really nice, but the budget is really somewhat limited. Just scrapped my idea of putting a turbo system together, using one of the cheap turbos that I've seen on ebay, carbon seals e.t.c. put a dampener on that adventure. And if anyone has a set of decent carbs for sale, let me know.
Thanks.

Thanks Black
Do you know what years these came on? Are they the only ones with an accelerator pump? or did they come in smaller sizes with accelerator pump as well?

mthure, the definition of Holy Grail will depend on who you talk to. Some will say, VM29 smoothbores, some say Kehein CR specials, some say RS34's, if you were drag racing you would say Lectrons. Some might even say BS34's. Leon's suggestion is a good one. Me, I like my VM29 smoothbores best of the carbs that I have. Those smoothbore's are getting expensive these days. Just based on your scenario, I would say to stay away from constant velocity carbs like the BS34's since you won't be using an airbox. They can be difficult to tune for pods.

i am not sure of the exact years of production for accelerator pump carbs.

i do think that 79-80 1000's had them.

29 smoothbores are a sure bet, but getting very expensive. Stock 28's are decent - I know that 79 and 80 1000 models came with accelerator pump for sure, maybe other years, models? Didn't care for RS34 flatslides but some people swear by them. After trying a bunch of carbs, I ended up with my old trusty Mikuni 33 smoothbores back on. Mine have always run great and the 33's are relatively cheap. I bought a set of CR 35's to try but haven't got around to it yet. Let us know what you go with.
