Stuck float pin!!! was created by barquirt
I have a '74 KZ400 I'm bringing back after 27 years in poor storage. Carburetors are a mess. I have one completely apart, the second has a float pin that refuses to budge. I've been tapping at it with a center punch and all it seems i'm doing is wrecking the head of the pin on both sides.

Anybody been here before and found a good solution? I've been soaking the pin with cleaners and tapping at it for more than a week with zero results. HELP!

If not already done, try soaking overnight in 50-50 solution of ATF and acetone.

Apply heat to pin locations with a propane torch immediately before gently tapping on the pin.

Be ultra careful not to break off a tower.

Good Fortune! :)

not to be a smart azz but you should use a BRASS punch not steel
also try BB-Blaster

Make sure you support the bottom float post where the pin is stuck.

Would fab a support mechanism whereby both tower posts are simultaneously held in position while the pin is being pressed or tapped.

Pressing or tapping a pin on the end where it's "loose" in one post also applies pressure to the other post where the pin is "tight."

Good Fortune! :)

You can get a set of brass gunsmithing punches pretty cheap (like under $10) with all different diameters for smacking pins without destroying the head of the pin.
