kz750 running on only two carbs was created by cc250r
hows it going i just picked up another bike to add to the collection in my garage haha it is a 85 kz750 4 cylinder shaft drive it has K&N pod filters and some 4 into 1 exhaust i do not know what kind it is but anyway when i start it it only runs on two carbs the inner two run the outer dont they only fire up if i spray starting fluid in them but the diaphrams are stiff they dont slide well so that is probally why they dont run on those carbs, So how should i make them smoother and slide easier?

You should do a clean and rebuild, find out what jets are in them and then go from there. With pods and CV's you are in for a long process of getting them right. Search in the carb section for all of the discussions, you will have to wade through lots of pods vs air box wars though unfortunately. If you want to go the simple way out then find an original air box and make sure both sides of the carbs boots are liable and not cracked then go that route back to stock with stock jets. Be sure to set he float levels, adjust for proper air/fuel mix and sync them. Good Luck!

If the #2 and 3 diaphragms are stiff and the slides dont move easily I can understand not running on those cylinders but am also wondering would'nt it at least idle on those cylinders?
Like KZ_Rage said I think you need to go through the carbs really thoroughly and clean every hole. Unfortunately I dont know how to make diaphragms soft or even if you can.
Best of luck

Try this method of softening up dried, rubber parts:
Successfully Resurrecting Old Rubber Parts
(Found on the internet)
This subject has been broached before but I am happy to report success in revitalizing old rubber.
I have been using a mixture of 30% wintergreen oil (methyl salicylate) and 70% xylene to restore old rubber parts and it works beautifully. This is the same ingredients and proportions for the commercial product Rubber Renue according to the MSDS sheets.
Wintergreen oil is analgesic and liniment for aching muscles and found in most drugstores, pharmacies, health food stores and co-ops.
I gently heated rock hard honda CB carb boots with a heat gun for 30 seconds and dropped them into mason jars with my solution for 12 hours at room temperature. They come soft, pliable and looking good. They have been out of solution for 48 hours now and are still soft and pliable. I soaked smaller rubber parts such as side panel grommets and there extremely soft and may need to soak for less time

Ok
Hmmmm
No doubt you have cleaned the slides and the area/barrells they fit into. Any sign of corrosion ? Perhaps gummed up or a thin film of gum ? Maybe try something like carb cleaner on a rag or something like brasso which works wonders on float valve seats. Slides should not need to be lubed. The should be perfectly clean and they should move freely. Could they be poor fitting replacements from another set of carbs ?. Whatever you try on the slides be gentle.
Are you sure it's the slides and not the needles that are sticking
Forgive the dumb questions. Just thinking out loud here.
Good luck

I fixed it my needle was a little bent on the 2 outer carbs now all 4 diaphram slides slide fine so i cleaned the carbs really good found out i have 125 main jets ( is that a good size for K&N pods and a 4 into 1 straight pipe?) But then i painted all the hats on top off the carbs to make them look nice and good thing i do because one of the carbs on the inner 2 is missing a diaphram spring so now i have to order that.
