79 kz750 carb issues.. Choke and jet related was created by section8joe
OK, I'm using
this link
to go through and clean the carbs on a 79 750.
My carbs look kinda similar but not exactly the same. Anyway I'm having trouble getting the choke plunger out. I have it threaded completely out and I try and pull it out and it wont budge. Do I need to remove the clip on top to get the plunger out? The plunger never worked right on the bike. It was alway stuck kinda half way between open and closed.
Another issue is the lack of jets. Here is a look at bottom of the carbs with the float bowl removed. Should there be a main jet there somewhere? I think I found the pilot inside the float bowl(looks like a 40). I have no idea where the mains should be.
Now onto the floats. It seems like these carbs have two different floats. One float has a few circle markings on the side and the other doesn't. The one on the right seems to be a bit larger but that may be because it's sitting higher.I haven't begun to adjust the floats. Not sure if it's worth it at this point.
What do you think of all this?

OK, I found the Main jet. I had to take the bowl drain screw out to get to it. Any idea on the floats or choke plunger? I can't get it out to save me life.

Thanks...

That plunger should pull out easily, must be seized in there.
125 main jet size, I think the stock idle jet is 35, and I think it's 1 1/2 turns out on the screw.
Been a couple years since I did mine, and my next one is going to be fuel injected (next project).
You can get tons of info at the KZ twins site .
I think there are now two place to get jets for those carbs, you'd have to look at the other site to find out where though.

The pilots are Mikuni BS30/96 type. Many places sell them. The mains are rare but the 125 are right size unless you put on race pipes.

Stcok pilot jets are 45, but 50's run better. If you have a 40, it's a California bike and will still run better with a 50. Stock mains are 125. The floats are removed by pushing the steel pin out and they drop. Set the screws 2T out from all the way in.section8joe wrote: anyone? I was hoping you'd see this thread Bountyhunter, I knew the mains were 125 but had to guess at the rest cause I can't find my manual at the moment.
