Wont run was created by jimflex
1980 kz 1000. it started about two weeks ago, when I would jump on it and it would hit about 5000 rpm the bike would start to fall on its face, it would sputter and pop and go no where. Now it will idle when i start it but as soon as i give it some gas it just dies and gas pours out from the bowl overflow tubes. I just need some advice to what could be wrong before I start pulling things apart. Can anyone HELP?

Pull the carbs, clean them extremly well and set the float levels. Also check out your boots that attach the carbs to the head. If dry or hard they will need replaced. The float levels are why you have fuel running out the overflows. Use the clear tube method to set them. There is plenty of info on here about how to do it. Good luck and have fun.

Where excessive fuel is entering the carb float bowl, the typical causes may include imperfect float valve (most likely), or function of the float itself.
It's critical that the pointed tip of the float needle interfaces perfectly with the orifice in the float seat.
Another possibility could be a cracked overflow tube, whereby fuel exits the overflow without ever rising to top of the tube.
Good Fortune!
