PLEASE HELP. 1977 KZ1000A1 carb parts. was created by johnshockey
Hello all, My son recently bought a 1977 KZ 1000A1 from a family member. I had this exact same bike when I was ohhhhh lets say in my 20's. This bike sat and sat for years and I finally talked him into rebuilding the carbs after it would not start/stay running for any length of time. The previous owner added the individual coned shaped aircleaners, a Kerker 4 into 1 exhaust system and upon taking apart the carbs we found the jets have also been changed to bigger ones to accomodate the "high performance" add ons.(that is an entirely different subject in my opinion but anyway)While taking the carbs apart, one of the throttle valves accident fell to the floor. Yes, of course it did have to land on the jet needle. I have searched and searched and cannot find a replacement. Does anyone have a good suggestion for me to start? Any help will be very much appreciated.

You also might want to determine which carbs are on the bike. Stock are Mikuni VM26SS but common upgrades were Mikuni VM28 and Mikuni VM29 carbs.

thanks guys. I would really rather that my son try to find all the stock parts and bring it back to as close as stock as he can. As long as HIS cash holds up anyway. I will try the web sites you listed MFolks and I do believe that the carbs are still the stock VM26's, the previous owner just added the bigger jets in order to compensate for the air cleaners and exhaust, and yes to drink a bit more gas in order to go a bit faster. again thanks to you both.

There is a part # on the jet needle.
How about a picture and that part #.
I have a pile of parts that I could check.

wow you must either be a lot younger than I am or you have some pretty good eyes to be able to see a part number on that small of a needle. lol. According to my manual the jet needle part is 5CN8. I will check once I get home tonight to see if I can see an actual number on the needle though.
