kz650 wont start without starting fluid
16 May 2011 22:47
Bike was fine. Went in garage. Was working on bleeding my breaks. Was kinda cold today. Started bike. Ran it up and down street. Let it sit a while. Dont remember if it died or if i turned it off but wont start back. Spray startinf fluid in breather, starts up, stays running but wont start back up if i turn it off. I dont know, maybe it will be fine after it sits over night or something but does anyone know what would cause this? Saturday, I put seafome in gas tank. I only had about a gallon of gas so i only put half the seafoam in the tank. For all i know, the fuel level could be low but i put a small amount in and still same problem.

Sounds like my GS1100ex before I found my valves were way out. Hard starting, but once started ran okay, but then hard starting.
How many miles are on the bike and when was the valve adjustment checked last?

It only has 8000 miles. I was wondering if it could be a possible carb issue?

When you say you "only put half the seafoam in the tank" half of what? I mean, how much did you add to the little bit of fuel that was in the tank. Ed

Try putting the petcock on reserve or adding more gas.

i had this same problem on my 650. Make sure the pilot circuit is clean. Have you cleaned the carbs this season? does it idle fine? Is there any hesitation in throttle response?

That sounds exactly like how it was before it would even start. I have not cleaned the carbs....thoroughly anyway. It takes forever to warm up and there is a small hesitation in the throttle response. I called a guy to take a look at it.

Too much! Take a look at the can. It says 1 oz. per gallon. If you estimate you only had 1 gallon of gas and you put in 1/2 a can you put in 8 times as much as recommended (1 can = 16 oz). I would empty the fuel tank, drain the carbs, and start over with a tank of fresh gasoline and no Seafoam (yet). The good news is that may be all you need to do so get her running ok again. Ed
