1975 KZ400 float adjustment help
10 May 2011 13:30
Can anyone send me a link to service info for these carbs, or tell me
how and where to set the float levels? I do not currently have a float
level gauge/tool so I'm also wondering if you can do it without one.
Thanks!

Clear tube method is the only way.
Measure the fuel height. Take off the carbs. take off the bowls. measure the height of the float. Do the math and calculate how much to adjust the float to get the right fuel height. ...
There's a manual and lot of technical data her www.kz400.com/

How does one "calculate how much to adjust the float"? I thought it was pretty much bend the tang, fill the bowls and check with the tube again, bend the tang, fill the bowls and check the tube again, a workable but not exactly precision technique. Or maybe I'm reading to much into your use of "measure" and "calculate". I've never done it myself, just asking. I've done the check, just didn't need an adjustment.

Ok I get it. Well yes, you could do it that way if you have no float level measuring device. I never have heard of this clear tube method, I'll be honest I am just getting into the wonderful world of carburetor work. But anyhow, you could figure out how many mm's you are off with the clear tube, and then use a float level gauge to measure where your floats are at, and go from there, pretty much eliminating a bunch of disassembling / reassembling your bowls. Thanks for the info guys!
