5000 rpm is high for 60 mph. I generally get 32 - 36 mpg on my stock KZ650-C1 depending on how sporty I feel, but it runs 4000 rpm at 60 mph. What sprockets are you running or is your clutch maybe slipping some? Ed

Tune your mixture screws leaner (closer to stock - not highest rpm per cylinder), and it will improve your cruising speed fuel consumption dramatically, at any speed.

Quick way: turn the screws richer till the engine stumbles, then turn them leaner till it stumbles while counting the turns, then choose the midle of the two points. (subtract half your count)

Bikes tend to have the best fuel economy at the rpm point that is just full advance 3500 - 4000 rpm usually.

Good luck.

Interesting....I am keeping this tip in mind for when I upgrade to pods and 4 into 1 exhaust this winter...right now I am getting about 44 mpg with an 81 750H LTD. Lots of highway riding mostly at 110-120 kmh...ahhhh 60 to 70 mph I think. Do those little cafe racer fairings on the headlight reduce drag?

When you put on the pods expect the gas consumption to increase. I went from pods to an airbox a year ago and have better consumption. I never figured out exactly what it is but then I'm filling it up with litres and riding Km..... and depending who you're talking to there's US gallons and UK gallons
