Throttle Cables

Not sure if this post belongs here or in another forum, but here it goes:

Does anyone know if the throttle cables from a 1980 KZ550A will fit a 1980 KZ550C?

look up what each model had for a carb. if they are the same they will, and chances are they probly are the same

You also have overall cable length to consider so handlebar height is also important when matching cables.

The Zedder cross reference software basically says "No" . The 550A was the standard model, and the 550C is the LTD model. Like George mentioned about handlebars, the length is probably different. From a quick look, it looks like the 550-650-750 Standards shared cables and the LTD/CSR/SR shared cables.

No, they will not fit. The 80 KZ 550 A1 is a standard and the 80 KZ 550 C1 is an LTD model. The throttle opening cable for the 80 550 A1 part # 54012-1040 also fits the 81 A2 and the 82 A3. The opening throttle cable on the 80 550 C1 (LTD) part # 54012-1012 can be switched with the 78 KZ 650 D1 and D1A, 79 KZ 650 D2, 80 KZ 650 E1, 81 KZ 550 C2, 82 KZ 550 C3 and 83 KZ 550 C4.

Awesome. That's exactly what I was hoping for: Choices!!

I stopped by the local kawi dealer and ordered some new cables. The closing cable wasn't a problem, buit the opener he only had available from Kawasaki. After I didn't hear from them two weeks later I stopped by and it turns out that it is no longer available from Kawi at all. They are just so busy they forgot to call me and let me know. Now I am on a search for the openeing cable!!

After visting their website and calling them up (and stop back to my local kawi dealer) the proper cables have been found and ordered and should be here tomorrow.

Apparently, the dealer ordered (or was shipped) the wrong cable for the one that they could get. I noticed it was wrong, checked some other things and the right ones should be here soon.
