Hi all,
I am getting closer to firing the 1000 up. I have a stock engine except for coils, 4into1 header, no muffler(open can), and pods. Should I run with my stock jets first and experiment or try something from the start?

ALso, what about plug recommendatioins? Start with factory and go from there?

thanks,
mike

i would think it is going to be very hard to start. it might run with full choke, but with that open of an air flow path it is going to run lean. you will probably want to richen up the mixture. i cant say for sure what needles to change to... for that i will wait for wiredgeorge to show up.

Its going to be very lean with stock jets, Im pretty sure you go a couple sizes up for each mod on a stock engine. ex: 2 for pipe, 2 for pods, and dont forget to adjust the pilot accordingly, theres a good article in the filebase that should help you out, I believe its in non model specific

ok thanks guys, i will give that a try. The only thing I know about these carbs is that they have the accelerator pump, and they are Mikuni. I cannot find any numbers or any thing else on them.
WHen I had them apart, they DO have the stock jets and I don't remember seeing any "clips" or anything on the needles that looks like you can raise or lower them. I could be wrong, I'll look again.

I am just tryhing to get close, so when I do fire the engine, I won't hurt it.
Thanks,
Mike

I have the same bike pretty much. The needles are non adjustable. I bought an Jet Kit for it and it came with adjustable needles. When I had the carbs on the bike I had 4-1 pipes, yosh muffler, accel coils. I was running the stage 3 jet kit. Worked great for me. I just need bigger carbs now that I have done some engine mods. Harley Davidson- Turning gas into noise without the harmful affects of horsepower for over 100 years.
