Well, I found the problem. First, I drained the tank last season to change all the fuel lines. I drained the carb bowls as well. This season when I tanked up, I thought to check a few things before I tore down all 4 carbs, (to fix the lost power problem this thread has been talking about). I put the gas in and it started right up. I shut it down after about a minute and then smelled gas. I noticed all 4 carb bowls were leaking so I checked the screws, all 4 on all 4 carbs were loose. The gaskets must have dried up some with no gas and loose bowls. I tightened the screws and the leaks stopped. Then I took it up on the highway and brought it up to 105 MPH and she was still climbing! NO hunting and NO misses, NO loss or power. It was wicked strong. So I suppose the carb bowls were just loose enough last season to suck wind when it was calling for more fuel at high speed. Funny though, I never noticed the gas leaks or smelled it either. I think the loose bowl-air leak was just a small enough leak to suck in air but not leak gas, I guess. Now it's back. 105+ and climbing. These days it gets harder to stay on at that speed. I must have been crazy when I was younger, ....bringing it up to 130 racing 911's on interstate 684. No more of that noise. Glad I got to be this age.

Use some Blue Loctite #242 on those carb screws. They can be removed with tools, but resist vibration. Don't use any of the Red loctites as they require about 300 F to loosen up.

Sounds like a great suggestion. I'll do it this weekend. Thanks!
