Picked up a set of RS34's for my 81 KZ750. Thanks go Beefsquasher for looking at the bike and bench synching the carbs.

SO, I go to mount them and one of the carbs hits the chain tensioner. This one is the larger one with the large tensioner cap in addition to the smaller bolt...

Should I go to a manual tensioner (APE)?

Or stick with the older tensioner?

My thought is manual tensioner.

Those particular year auto-tentioners actually worked quite well if maintained, so either one you can manage to fit will work fine.

I gotta say though... RS34s are pretty huge for a 750. You may find them quite difficult to get "just right".

Do it, just DO IT.

Hmm.. well before I go through the effort of getting these on (nothing is on it now)... would appreciate feedback on this.

Bike is basically stock internals, except for 4 into one V&H exhaust and K&N's. I know these are not serious mods - but they were there when I picked it up from a friend.

According to Mikuni the RS34's are what they recommend for this setup:

I have the stock carbs (or at least I think they are, and the PO had a shop try to get them to run right.

In the end, I just want this thing to start up nicely, run well, and not break down...

I'd appreciate feedback.
