Pingle problem? was created by testarossa
Has anyone ever received a Pingle petcock that was improperly assembled. I just got mine in from Z1 yesterday, and being the inquisitive lad that I am, I decided to inspect it's function. Well, at first blush, there was no position that actually opened the valve. I pulled the filter screen off to discover that the ball valve was clocked 180* wrong.

I simply knocked out the roll pin in the handle, turned the ball valve around 180, and then re-installed the handle. Now everything is fine, but this strikes me as strange. I mean it's an $80 petcock for crying out loud, and I can assure you that I would not be able to "Pass more gas" as they like to say. I probably should have just returned it instead of fixing it myself.

I'm not angry with Pingle or Z1. I work in manufacturing and understand that even the best QA misses an occasional boo boo. I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with one of their petcocks.

Damn right! It seems that sometimes I have a sixth sense about these kind of problems. Don't know why I decided to shine the flashlight down that little hole, but glad I did.

Seems to be my luck these days. I still need to tell my little story about the ultimate SNAFU when ordering a brand new, American made, professional tool chest. Currently waiting for that company to make it right. I'll reserve judgement until their rep makes it to me with a square tool chest.

Glad you noticed and were able to fix it yourself, just FYI I have dealt with Pingel for years, and their customer service is exemplary. I've had two customers over the years that had a small issue (weeping seal), I would make a phone call and Pingel simply asked they send the valve to them and took care of them 100%.

I'm sure that they would have done me right, but I figured out what to do. I tend to be a little impatient, so I went ahead and fixed it myself. No harm, no foul. I will say to Pingle's credit, the petcock seems like a well made, simple design.
