one cylinder seem too rich ??? was created by mjkawa
Im kinda stumped here. 77 650 b. Rebuilt engine and have been trying to get the carbs adjusted with new jets.
Original air box with K&N filter, and 4-1 pipe.
Have went through all of the procedures (I think)
Timing, valves adjusted, bench synched, float levels adjusted, (clear tube method).
New plugs, gapped.
Adjusted air fuel screws.
150 psi compression all accross
Now it seems that #4 is way too rich. The pipe on #4 is not near as hot as the other three. It seems to be burning some, It is too hot to touch with hand, But water spray test is quite different on 123, that it is on 4. And there is much less heat coloring in the chrome pipe.

After Idle I pulled the plug and it is wet with gas.
I also checked the plug resting against the engine, and it has a nice clean blue spark.
I have got to be missing something simple here. Please help me to see the woods through all of the trees.

Thanks
MJ

This involves double checking that the float is at the correct level, and that the float does not sink from having a small hole, and that the fuel and air jets are in their respective locations and the correct size/ not blocked/ clean etc. Have you done a carb balance when the engine is warmed up and running? If not do the go over and then if you think good to go I would do this next.

I have rechecked the float level with the clear tube method.
And the problem cylinder is actually a little lower than the others.
about 2mm.
This should actually make it run a little leaner, correct?

Are you talking about the dynamic sych? with the manometer tool?

Unfortunately, the one tool that I dont have.

thanks for the help

Without dumping out a lot of bucks for a tool that you will only use once in a while. You can read through this post, and there are others on how to make 1 up cheap.

I just made a carb sync tool this week. Main tubes are 3/8" and tubes to carbs are 3/16 with old pilot jets (37.5) as dampeners in between the two sizes of tubes. The board is 32" and I used 2-stroke oil in it.

Nice job! Total cost? Less than what, $10?
Write it into that thread I had there, it will "Top Post" it, or start another with yours, there easy and work.
