Keihin Carb Help was created by captaincrusty51
I am finally getting my KZ650 to wake up from a 20 year nap. I bought her last summer from an estate sale and have been sorting out the kinks.
The bike came with Keihin CR Specials and there is very little info on these. After I gave them a good cleaning and put them on the bike, I got her running good enough for a road test. Now I am waiting for a petcock and fork seals from Jeff to make her safe to venture more than a couple of miles from home.
One of the carbs has a threaded area and I have no idea what it is for
The other carbs have the casting but it is sealed over.
Is this supposed to have a tube for the vacume petcock? When I put my finger over it it does not affect idle so I did not think it was leaking air but ut is hard to tell. Anyone familiar with these have an answer?

And a picture showing the fitting with the one on the right sealed.
All four have air screws, but the one has the threaded area on the other side.

Most of the CR carbs have that threaded hole on 1 of the carbs (usually the one closest to the throttle linkage). I think it just might be a manufacturing thing that denotes the base carb from the others. A vacuum petcock would not get any vacuume from that side of the throttle slide.
In my opinion, They are one of the best carbs you can get.

The CR carbs are pretty easy to rejet also. I usually put them on my personal bikes when I can. I have a set of 31mm on my CB 750 SOHC and they are real SWEET!
The early style CR's are even nicer and easier to tune. Heres a set for the Kaw 900 that I saw on Ebay

Hey Fish, thanks for the info. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something importent.
Barney, please let me know if you come up with any tuning information for these.
Without a stock carb setup to compare it with, I can't know how much improvement these make; however, after a rough driveway tuneup without carb sync to get her running, the bike pulls strongly up to redline.
Now to get the suspension up to snuff.

I got my carbs new from Sudco. When I ordered them they were pre-jetted to my engine and were very close to what I needed. They also came with a small leaflet to make re jetting easier. I lost the leaflet, so I cant help you with that.
