He is my situation. I have 1977 kz 1000a, and just had 1075 piston kit put in motor. My problem is that when bike went to shop the adjusted carbs (29 smoothbores)to 2nd clip from top on needle jet. Bike runs ok, but it seems to be sucking to much air. I put needle back to 3rd clip position, but when I did that the pipe (V&H MEGA), started to blue on holes 2 & 3. The question I have is (1) are the vent plug holes suppose to have hose on them to limit the amout of air that gets into carbs, (2) Should i start with air mixed screw closed, then adjust from there. Motor just has 1075 piston kit, stock cams, V&H exhaust. If anyone has same set up and can give any help appericated it.

The bowl vent connections have hoses routed to the airbox to prevent debris/crud getting into the bowls.

The air mixture screws should be at a default setting, then start from there. If they are closed off completely then the bike should not start, unless a huge amount of idle is input and throwing everything off.

I'd say 1.5 turns out is a good place to start.
