I have a 77 kz 1000 with original vm 26 carbs non accel pumps. I have stock airbox and v&h 4 into 1 pipe. I still have stock jets 115 mains and 17.5 pilots. I rebuilt the carbs, and they are spotlessly clean inside. The idle is good, but i do get a stumble just off idle, but is gone by 2000 rpm. The bike runs good, but pops on decel. I have been told that this usually indicates a lean mix. Is it a lean pilot or lean main jet? I would think it would be a lean pilot due to the fact the throttle is closed on decel, so the pilot is providing the fuel at this time. Any answeres are welcome.

Try this before you take anything else apart. Start it up and spray some WD 40 around the head side of the carbs. If it affects the idle you've got an intake leak that's causing a lean condition.
Good Luck.

115 mains were not stock jet size. More like 105.
Open the fuel screws up 1/4 -1/2 turn on the bottom of the carbs. Sounds like it's a lean with the stumble and popping on decel...
