I think if that was something that would work for motorcycles it would already be on the market... I have seen it for cars with unlimited space (sticking thru the hood) but there are space restrictions on stock motorcycle chassis.
Usually the outside ones will hit the chassis down tubes.
Plus I still think you run into the same side wind issues and not enough length for the air to make the turn into the stack to smooth out in time before it hits the combustion chamber.
When were talking about missing length it might be on the order of 4-5"
Thanks - that makes sense.

Describe exactly the RPM you're at when you have the bog.
Are you at 2000RPM in first gear or at 4000 RPM in 5th?

- Keep twisting it
1st gear .
4000rpm wot is good,:woohoo:
3500 hesitates then pulls hard,
3000bogs then pulls,
2000 flat out bog.
some pop on decel.
i repeated the test at dif clip and main settings and found it to be best here.
main 125, P 27.5 @ 1/4 turn out, clip#3.
the reason the road racers dont use box's is they dont use low rpms . they use velocity stacks , which they very in length to move the rpm range at which they pull best.
u must keep the revs up in a turn, to have good acceleration upon exit.
i am talking old school here, not modern GP racing. They use air boxes.
I'd say the reason guys dont use boxes on the street is that the stock boxes dont fit after a carb change, and it is a lot of bother to fab 1 . if there was more info like this to prove there worth , i think there would be more in use today.

We always tossed the air boxes. To be honest, I never had big problems with bogging like that. Hell all we wanted was the most power we could get out of the engine.
Never had bogging wity 26's, 28's [later ones] or 29's. The 33's were a different story sometimes though.
Truly the best place to draw air is from a still air chamber....

unrelated: kinda:
a kz fanatic mechanic with a 1428 bike he rode to work..once told me that the stock z-1 one piece airbox was the best and a real keeper and that with my 29's and clean /new K&N filter (which was what i had at the time)was the best combo for for small cc kz's...
the stuff you folks are saying makes total sense....even to a non tech like me....very cool
