Gas tank leaking from the welded seams

:woohoo:

I know the usual gas tank leak issues as discussed on the board (PC and or Gas Cap) but I have a 1974 KZ 400 and the gas is leaking slowly but surely out of the welded seams on the bottom of the tank. My neighbor actually has a 75 KZ 400 and his is doing the same thing. He says it only happens in the summer on his. Anybody else had this problem and what are the best fixes? Mine is still a project so no new paint yet and I was thinking maybe having a new weld put on or somehow trying to seal the current weld.

I used the Kreme 3 part tank restoration (cleaner, Prep/Etcher & Sealer) on my 900 tank...

I live in Arizona where temps reach 115F in the summer... No problems and in my second summer....

Same time.... I guess it depnds on the condition of the seams...

I guess i was trying to avoid doing that since the inside of the tank has no rust or any other issues. I may have to resort to that especially knowing you've had no problems in Arizona it's just not my first choice.

Well I guess you could always get the seams grounded and re-welded but kiss your paint job goodbye....

Maybe some of the others have found an external product that works......

Hell, Otto the Mad Chemist should know of something I would think....

If you want a quick fix that is temporary you could try some epoxy putty. I used some in an emergency 150 miles away from the house and its still there after two years. Might not be the right way but it is quick and easy to do and not messy at all.

My.02 cents

Easy to mix - Stops leaks, makes repairs fast - Begins to harden 2 min. after mixing - Fully hardens in 20 min. - Can be drilled, filed, tapped, sanded and machined after one hour - Can be painted even before full hardening - For plumbing, bathroom, underwater, auto repairs and custom formed gaskets
