kz440 pods? is it possible??? was created by mooney
okay, ive read alot about how people were having all sorts of fits trying to tune the keihin carbs of the kz440 to pod filters. IS there someone out there who has succesfully tuned these carbs with pods and exhaust by rejetting etc.. im unable to use the stock air box due to space issues. i saved this old bike from a junk yard, and chopped it, before considering how hard it is to tune these pods. anyway any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not for a 440, but I did it for a ZR750 Zephyr, and you cant even get pods for that because the carbs are so close together and they are Keihin BS34s with the spacing for a KZ550. It requires a little of carb modification. PM me if you are interested.

A number of very knowledgeable folks have stated that the KZ440 w stock carbs is virtually impossible to tune for pod filters. I know that doesn't really answer your question.

Someone here installed some late model ATV carburetors w some success, using one pod filter connected to a homemade intake manifold.
Here's the topic w pics: My Custom Bobber 440 .
And here's a quote:

Thanks for the good comments! The manifold was made using copper tubing, I believe 1.5" diameter. I took 3 90's and brazed them together. I'll post pic tonight.

The carburetor is a mikuni cv off of a 2004 kfx400 atv. I added larger jets and shimmed the needle. I need to get a bigger pilot jet for the cold mornings. When it's cold, the lower rpm stutters a little. When bike is warm, it runs great from idle to wot and will rev about 1000rpm higher than with factory jetted carbs.

It has digital ignition, so the timing is more or less fixed. I plan on oblonging the holes on the mounting plate to advance the timing to tune further.
