What carbs fit a KZ1000? was created by Kapahulu
I just bought a '79 KZ1000 with VM carbs and accelerator pump. I tried to bench sync them and they seem to go out of sync everytime I open and close the throttle.
Maybe the mechanisms are worn out on them? The bike has about 25k miles.
I'm wondering what other carbs will work on the KZ1000. Mikuni BS34's seem to be a bit expensive. Wondering if the GS1000, GS850 etc. CV carbs have the correct spacing and will fit the intake boots?
Thanks, Mike

I thought the GS1000 also used BS34 carbs. Am I wrong?
I don't know about them being "expensive". I got mine on Ebay for less than $100, and I routinely see them go for around that. I don't consider that "expensive" for good carbs. YMMV.

If you do go with BS34s, remember, you will need larger intake manifolds--so that could bump up your total outlay.

26,s, 28's, 29's 34's, 36's 38's etc...................
hell, even 24's will fit.
some suzuki carbs have a different choke set up so be carefull.
i guess 34 bs's will work if you don't like throttle response while cruising. ( sorry otakar, not a fan )
there not worn out after 25k unless they were really abused.
what kind of problem are you having and how did you determine there out of sync?

Skyman - $100 - $200 for a set of carbs and intakes would be great. I checked on e-bay and someone is selling police carbs for $250. Then it will need intake manifolds and new throttle cables. Seems like there might be a cheaper way.
Kawsakiman - When I sync the carbs using a wire, then flip the throttle open and closed a few times, the #2 carb doesn't stay in sync with the rest of the carbs. The slide says open too far or closes all the way.
What else could be causing this problem besides being worn out? I'd love to hear a solution.

Get a set of gauges and a sync wrench. you know the socket with the flat screwdriver in the center. Theyn sync them while the bike is running. It will make all the difference in the world. Bench sync will only get you close. If you change carbs then you have to rejet and screw around getting it to run right.

I have a set of sync gauges. The bike wouldn't run good enough to sync - I'll try again and see if I can make 'em work.

Not sure I unserstand this statement.? I have BS34's and VM28's, and properly setup I find the BS's jump harder with less input them the VM's, and I've been frigging with them both (MANY setups), for years now.
Weak throttle response with the BS carbs is too lean pilot, compensated with the mixture screws.
IM NOT A BIG FAN of them being much more difficult to tune with mods, but can be made to out perform IMO.
