Kz440 rpm problem was created by gabeb123
I have a 1982 kz440 that will rev good when in is in nuetral but will only rev up to about 5k when it is in any other gear and i can only get it up to 50 mph. it runs pretty rich but i dont know if thats the problem.
im not sure if this is a carb issue or a electrical issue.
it has good compretion(150psi) and the air mixture screws are adjusted as good as i can get them without the equipment to sync them.
ive cleaned the carbs really good.
ive allso changed the oil and the oil filter.
thanks

Hello, gabe, and WELCOME to KZR!
We're glad you're here!
Would check function of the advancer by using a strobe type timing light to watch the advancer quickly move back and forth as rpm is varied by blipping the throttle.
The advancer may require lubing, or maybe both cleaning and lubing.
Good Fortune!

Good info...
You say it runs rich? What indications are you observing?
Does this bike have all the origional jets/airbox/filter/exhaust? Any major parts changes like different cams?

the spark plugs are black and to the best of my knowlede everything is stock
the advancer unit was seized up but i didnt have a gear puller so i couldnt take it out so i used about a can of wd40 on it and then my dad told me to pry the movable parts with a screwdriver and i did that and i think i broke something on both sides but i still have the same problem but now you can see the advancer unit work how its suposed to and i have a strobe but i have no clue how to use it.
