pulled the bowls on the KZ yesterday the jets are main jets: not sure if said 120 or 720 but i'm going with 120, pilot was 22.5. I figure these are what came on it but wanna make sure because the pipes I got are completely open and it's running air pods so I figure it'll need to go up a few sizes.

Stock jets for that bike are 102.5 main and 15 pilot. This means that the Idle is WAY too rich and so are your mains. The idle jets should be at most only one size larger than stock and in most situations the same as stock and the mains only about four sizes larger at best. Meaning about 112. Increase to 115 would be pushing it.

Honestly I couldn't imagine the PO rejetting the carbs the stuff he's done to it didn't make him seem like the brightest bulb in the drawer. now on one picture it shows what otakar was saying but the second was completely different.

Second image set via Z1 Ent.. is for Z1 & KZ900 jetting and smooth bores...

Not sure which one of your KZ1000's your asking about...
Go with the first image set.... Same time, these are OEM and pending what has been done to your engine (compression & cams), head valve size/porting, carb/exhaust/filters, elevations, atmospheric conditions etc... may not be ideal for your jetting...

Good starting point though to work from....

The jetting I listed was right out of the 1979 A3A Z1 MKII manual.

K then that's what i'll start with. Although the Jet guide calculator pretty much sums up what I need to do. I think i'll go ahead and get 4x 110 main and 4x 17 pilot jets
