I bought this bike in May of this year. Just today, I learned that have to replace the carburetors . Any suggestions as to where I might find some?? I have been advised to stay with the stock carbs (34 mm keihn cv's).

Replace the carburetors? Why?

Usually they are just rebuilt, at like a 1/5 the cost.

? Anywho, eBay is said to be a good place.

You can try Wired George Carburetors

If you are going to replace them than get a set of Mikuni BS34s. They are much better than the Keihins. All the higher performance bikes used the Mikunis.

Thankyou for the info. I will check into them. Oh and yes, I will post some pics of my bike. It's stock, with the addition of Vetter Saddle bags/trunk

Mikuni BS Type 2 Carburetor. Are these the same as the Mikuni BS34's that were suggested?? Can't seem to find anything under BS34.

As to why I need to replace the carbs, they have a lot of varnish on them and one of the diaphram/pistons appear to have seized in the opening. Two different shops (One a specific Honda/Kawasaki and the other one where I bought the bike) recommended replacing them :S.

OK, so I finally got the diaphragm/piston out of the Carb body, but i kinda messed it up. Anyone know where I can get a replacement diaphram/piston and that needle that goes inside?? Bike Bandit charges $100+ for that part.

As far as swapping over to the Mikuni BS34's, I'm still investigating that idea as well.

Without really knowing, the stock carbs on your bike might be BS34s. A factory manual will answer that question. If you don't have a manual, go ahead & get one. You'd need the KZ750-Shaft manual - the ones I've seen on ebbaayy have a Spectre on the cover. Or you could try wiredgeorge's website to verify what you've got (wgcarbs.com).

As for BikeBandit's price, please note that the part may not be available: the vacuum piston valve is listed as Cancelled at Kawasaki.com. BB & a lot of online places show a price for everything in their parts diagrams, but they do not have nor can they get a lot of that stuff. When I need a part, I check the Kaw site first to see if it's Active. The info at Kawasaki.com isn't always 100% correct, but it's a good place to start.

Z1Enterprises.com has stuff for your bike. They don't list everything, particularly oem parts, so if you don't see something, contact them w your needs. The folks at Z1 are knowledgeable & helpful, and the shipping is usually fast.

Allthough otto didn't shamelessly plug his ad, he is selling some slides and diaphrams for the keihin 34's in the classifieds section of this site for a good price...

The problem we have in this thread is that we are going under the presumption that these are Keihin carbs. The KZ1100-D1 came with Mikuni BS34s. I think that a couple of pictures of what carbs these are would really help. In in fact these are Keihin CV34s than yes I do have a set of complete slides with needles and springs.

OK, the carbs are Keihin, not Mikuni. I have taken pic of one area of concern I have with the carbs. On the breather box side, one of the carbs has a crack in it.

Also there is a fair amount of rust (??) in the throats of two of them. I am hoping that I can sand the rust down so that the diaphram/pistons will work smoothly (any thoughts??).

If y'all don't see any issues with the crack, then I would like to find out more about the parts that Otto has for sale.
