1979 LTD1000, stock airbox w/Kerker - jetting?

I know this question has been asked over and over again, but every setup is a little different. I am cleaning up my carbs now and want to make sure that I am "close" on my jetting when I reassemble it all.

1979 LTD1000
vm28ss carbs (w/acc pumps)
stock airbox and filter
Kerker 4-1 exhaust w/street baffle
Dyna-S ignition
Ignition coil relay installed already

Right now it has these jets:
115 Mains
17.5 Pilots

How close am I on the jetting? I am seriously thinking of bypassing the acc. pumps because it is missing a couple of parts and I see that a lot of folks do away with them anyways. I just want a good-running, reliable bike. I am not looking to pop wheelies or anything. I live in GA and will be commuting in 95°+ temps at times, so heat is also a concern.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
Alex

What parts of the accell pumps are you missing? they are bsically for pumping in the additional fuel necessary for proper/smooth accelleration.

If you're using the stock airbox/snorkel and filter, then you should be able to get away with the stock jetting, as these bikes were jetted slightly rich to begin with. The pipes will probly cause some small popping on decelleration, but this can be solved by adjusting the mixture screws slightly to provide less air/more fuel.

Not 100% sure how the bike will react to having no accell pumps, maybe flaten out the accelleration. Could probly be solved by raising the needles slightly. I wouldnt worry about the mains, ince your not really slamming the throttle full. I dont think it would hurt anyways.

Well, based on everything I have read about the 79/80 LTD1000's, they were jetted lean from the factory, hence the need for accelerator pumps in the first place. Also, these carbs do not have adjustable needles.

Someone in the past has rejetted the bike for pods and a header, but I am using the stock airbox now.

The stock jetting for these carbs is 102.5 mains and 15 pilots. I am nowhere near that with the jets that I have right now (115/17.5). I have seen a lot of folks using the 17.5 pilot jets but I am curious about the mains. Are they way too big, or are they acceptable?

Interesting...

I have a 79 kz1000 LTD with pods.

I have the VM28 Carbs without the accell pumps, and I'm running 20 pilots, needle shimmed 5mm, and 140 mains.

It took a long time to come to this setup, and the bike pulls smooth throughout and clean to 130mph.

I never had a problem with stock lean jetting.?. Plugs were nice and tan when i first got her.

I think with those jets, you will be fine.

Put it all together, and let her rip.
Tell us how she pulls.

Testing the various fuel (throttle positions) circuits should be determined after full advance (around 3500rpm).
