I am in the process of cleaning the carbs on my 1979 LTD1000 (vm26ss) after they sat up for a couple of years. I am taking my time and trying to double-check everything, of course.

I found that one of the float bowls is missing a part that the other three bowls contain, but this part is not shown in the images that I have seen.

(Note: this is not my bowl, just a random image)

What is this part for and how critical is it?
Thanks,
Alex

The circlip with the brass piece is a check valve for the accelerator pump. without it that carb won't get the squirt of fuel from the pump.

Yes, my carbs do have the accelerator pump.

Would any harm come from running without this part on just that one carb?

Would it be noticeable?

You might notice a hesitation when you accelerate.Since that carb won't get the squirt. Someone sometime replaced that bowl with an older one without the pump. Just post on here for another carb bowl ,I'm sure someone here has one.

Sorry, I didn't explain the photo correctly...

That isn't my bowl, just an image I snagged for an example. Mine has the hole and right now it is wide open. There is no circlip and no brass part inside.

Would this cause issues if the passageway is wide open and un-restricted? I am now thinking that it may cause the one carb to leak and/or possibly affect the other carbs since they are all linked.

It's been as while since I work on a set of these. But,seems to me If one check valve is missing that you would lose the prime on the pump through that carb. Missing carb parts is never a good thing. I would try to find one if It were mine.

yes there is a plunger retained by a spring w/o it your acc pump system would be in operative.
