Is clutch properly adjusted? Is the engine idling at the proper rpm?If clutch is properly adjusted,u should be able to put the bike in gear without a noticeable drop in rpm. Also in Neutral and warmed up,the bike should idle smoothly at 850-1000 rpms.bj

Here is the scoop. When I adjusted the cable the first time the bike was on the center stand. Today when I had it on the ground and put it in gear it would die. I tried about an hour ago too adjust the clutch cable again, but things got worse. Now there is no free play in it, and it keeps lunging when I put it in gear. With the clutch lever pulled in. So what the $%@&. What did I do wrong? Could the cable be stretched?

To me, sounds like the clutch play and cable are screwed up. You need to take the front sprocket plate off and just start over. The manual gives really good instructions on how to adjust the clutch cable and make the plates inside the side cover line up right with the adjustment screw.

Basically you loosen up the clutch cable adjustment at the grip and under the bike. Then you turn the clutch adjuster screw all the way out, then all the way back in. Then you come back out one half turn. At that point you adjust the clutch cable is about where it needs to be. Adjust the clutch itself so it idles and goes into gear right. Then fine-tune the clutch cable. Not as hard as it sounds, but as I said before if you have the plates inside the cover screwed up you may need to take it off altogether and make sure they sit right. Good luck.
