I searched for the correct cable, the Motion Pro pull cable was recommended #03-0132 as you can see in the picture, the free cable length is too short, it's maxed out, notice the butterflies are open:S , I called Z1 enterprises, they tell me the 03-0132 with the 3.5in free cable length is the longest "free length" cable they have. I called Motion Pro, and they will custom make one for me for around 36.00. has anyone already been through this? Save me some agrivation:P With the bracket (screwed to top of carb cover) I purchased from ebay, I wish to use only one cable for this setup. Any help will be appreciated:P....
At Z1E, Motion Pro Throttle Cable 03-0132, 38" long with 3.5" max slack, is shown for KZ1000P (82-02)
Click > www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=2592
For 1980 KZ1000-B4 LTD, Z1E lists MP03-0020 as pull cable (44.5" long with 4" max slack)

and MP03-0019 for push cable (3.5" max slack).
Click > www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=272
Seems self-evident that any 3.5" max slack cable isn't going to fit KZ1000-B4 which requires 4" max slack.
Overall cable length is irrelevant to max slack dimension. And the same max slack is required when shorter cables are fitted to better accommodate lower handlebars for example.
With the bracket (screwed to top of carb cover) I purchased from ebay, --- am wondering if the ebay replacement bracket affords the same clearances as the oem bracket.
Is the oem bracket available to compare with the ebay bracket?
Since not mentioned, will suggest assuring that cable adjustments at both ends of cable, at handlebar throttle and at carb, have been screwed fully in to maximize exposure of inner cable.
And that the cable sheath ends fit fully into the fittings accepting the ends, and that the fittings aren't damaged.
Good Fortune!

Click > www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=266
As does KZ1000-C3
Click > www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=266
KZ1000-D1/2/3 Z1R use 3.75" max slack.
Click > www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=283
If all the available 4" max slack throttle cables from other years and models are too long or too short for the intended application, seems custom cable will be needed with specified overall length and 4" max slack.
Good Fortune!
