What Carbs fit an 82 GPz 750 (KZ750R1)

Okay,
Got stupid while "fixing" the carbs on my new to me 82 GPz 750. One of the float pins refused to come out no matter what I did and I went and hit it one time to many whith a punch, and manage to break the sandcast pieces that support the float.

These are Mikuni BS34s, so I was wondering what other bikes ran those. My L3 has them, but it's hard to run 2 bikes with one set of carbs!

Anyone have experience using carbs from another bike. it seems KZ1000s carbs are common on Ebay. There is a set from a 1982 shaft drive model. They look comparable, but thats not much of a scientific approach.

Thanks in advance

matt

The KZ1000s and 1100s had them also but the internals were set up quite a bit differently. It would take quite a bit of money to make a 750 run well with 1000/1100 carbs. It would be quite expensive to find the right Jet Needles & Needle Jets to make the 1000/1100 carbs perform, if you could even find the parts. Stick with carbs made for the 700/750 engines.

If the breaks to the pin posts are very clean (cracked off but not in pieces) you should be able to fix them with JB Weld. I made the same mistake with a auto carb a few years back and the fix worked fine. The stuff is not effected by gasoline once fully cured. But if the breaks have twisted metal in them, the float will end up slightly tweaked and may not work well.

Matt, as you well know, Keihin's seemed to be the carb of choice for middleweight Kawasaki's (with the exception of the KZ750L3, R1, and the early ZX750 line). However, all 998/1089cc J-motored models ran Mikuni BS34's. I'd guess that you could swap the innards of your R1 carbs for any BS34 from one of these bikes and make it work. However, remember, I actually have no experience doing this :) You might be wise to post this same question on www.wgcarbs.com

Hey guys thanks for the wisdom,

McDroid thanks for the link, just bought them, so I think between the two sets I can make something workable.

I'll put up some picks of my "stooopidity" to flush out the topic

Have a good holiday

Matt
