Paying it Forward ( KZ1100 Jetting) was created by Kawickrice
So I call about a set of carbs on Craigslist and got to talking to the guy. Turns out he did not have the carbs I was looking for so we shot the shit for a while and found out he is riding back to Michigan from Florida in two weeks. He was selling the carbs so he could have the money to rejet his bike before the trip. He came down because his father is in the hospital so he is not from around here. I mentioned that I might possibly have a set of jets but I needed to know what size he needed so I can check to see if I have them.

This is where I need some help from yall

From what I could gather he has a 82 or 83 KZ1100 shaft with the CV carbs. He said he has 120 mains in and does not know what size pilots he has. The bike has a header with baffle and pods.

What is the factory jetting for this bike? Does it take the large mikuni mains

Are the 120's to small and if so what size jets would get him in the ballpark for the ride home.

I would like to help out a fellow KZ rider if I have what he needs.

Assuming he has the '81/'82 1100A model, then he has Mikuni BS34 with the following:

main jet 120
needle jet Y-1
jet needle 5GX28 (non-adjustable)
pilot jet 37.5
starter jet #1 65
starter jet #2 0.8
main air jet 85
pilot air jet 350
pilot screw 1 1/4 turns out

So if he has the stock 120's what should he go to with baffled header and pods?

The top end is irrelevant what he needs to do is open his screws up by about 1/2 turn and raise the needles by about 2mm. If he wants to he can go up as much as 3 jet sizes on the mains. don't touch the pilots.
