I have a 1977 kz750 with 6000 miles on it that I have restored. I went through the gas tank, new fuel lines, tore apart and reassembled the carbs numberous times. I have two problems. First when I go to start it I never have to use the choke. In fact it won't start with the choke on. Is this normal? Second it idles fine and runs at low speed but when I get to third gear it starts hesitating and cutting out. Would the carbs being out of sync cause this or do I just need to make some adjustment to the carbs?....thanks...

Sounds like its running way rich not having to use the choke to start it, and getting to much fuel in the higher rpm's causing a hesitation.

From the heading I thought you had a 750 dirtbike project going :) :)

I removed the in-line fuel filters that were on it. Would that make it run rich. I haven't made any adjustments to the carbs. What do I need to adjust to lean it out? It has duel carberators....
