GPZ Carbs Mikuni BS32s Questions was created by odl666

Hello All,

I have a set of 1984 GPZ carbs, I have pulled the plugs that cover the pilot Jet and I have completely cleaned the carbs inside and out. I have not ran the bike yet.

I need to know: DO I need to put the plugs back over the Pilot jet (located in float bowl area next to main jet)

Also what is the proper adjustment for the pilot jet? Or is is the piolt jet even need to be adjusted?

Please see attached pic. THis pic shows the main jet and a plug right underneath. I have removed this plug to acces pilot jet.

Do you mean to say BS34s? Yes the plug must be replaced with new O rings installed, so there is no leek. The pilot jet is just an orifice. There is no adjustment. What you will want to adjust is the Pilot needle, which is located on the top of the carburetor under another plug. Also you will have to make sure that your "Needle Jet" AND 'Jet Needle" are matched to your application. If they are not matched properly they will make the engine totally unresponsive.

i have heard from both sides as far as putting plug back in.....if they are there, put them back in.....on bs34's, there is a mixture screw on the engine side of the carbs...
yours should be the same....if a mix screw is on the engine side of carbs, it cuts gas/air flow mix if screwed in and if the screw is on the air filter side of carb, screwing in will just cut off air.....i think i remember it right!!...hope this helps....g/l....

Thanks! No these are off a gpz750 so they are the bs32s a tad bit smaller thatn the 34s.
THats what I thought on the pilot jets, I was readign alot of stuff online and didnt make sense, I also found one pilot to be plugged with grime. I am adjusting the needle jets too, starting at the mid range.

THanks for all the help I hope to finally get her running this week! Thanks again!

All the ZX750-As (GPz750) that I know of had the Mikuni BS-34s just like the 1000s and 1100s with different jetting. I am not aware of any of the earlier GPZ that came with BS32s. I went threw all of my 750 manuals and found NO MENTION of ANY 32mm carburetors. The 750s aether came with Keihin CV-34s or Mikuni BS-34s.

Yup the 1984 ZX750-A2 is listed as having Mikuni BS34 carbs. Even the smaller 1984 KZ700A1 is listed to have those same carbs.

Gday guys, sorry to butt in but can anyone tell me how many turns out from seated do you have the air fuel screws on the bs-34s on a GPZ 750 86 model.I have stripped and cleaned the carbs they were fully blocked with green shit, used card cleaner and compressed air, just need a ball park figure to start her up then tune when running(i counted turns when i pulled them out but each one was different from .25 of a turn up to 2 turns, cheers.

The only place you will find that specification is in the Dealer Service manual. Which states 1 5/8 turns out for the 750. I run mine at 2 turns out, but that is on a 1100 and that one starts out at 1 1/4 turns out by the manual.
