Very high idle after cleaning carbs was created by Martinbr
The other day i took the plunge and removed the carburetors for the first time because my bike could not start.
I removed everything according to the Clymer manual and cleaned everything with compressed air.
Then i out everything back in and put the carburettors back on.
I fired up the bike and it started right away
but, but, but the idle i extremely high and the 'idle screw' (dont know what its called in english) does not work. Or at least there is no effect when i turn it.
Im totally new at working on bikes and have no idea what im doing.
Does anybody have any clue to what i have done wrong and what i should do?
Regards,
Martin

You may have to adjust the throttle cable, as you may not have it routed the same as before... the proceedure should be covered in your manual.
Good job at cleaning the carbs... it's not as tricky as it seems!

Thanks No actually it was not so tricky, and im very pleased that the bike could start
I did try to release the throttle cable completly, but that did not really change anything
And i think its pretty wierd that the idle screw does not seem to do anything when i turn it. Before cleaning (when the bike could still start) the idle screw worked fine.

Make sure you do not have any vacuum leaks as this is a sure sign. Also check the cables again to make sure they are not hung up somehow

Did you bench sync the carbs or play with the throttle adjusting screws at all? If so, you might have set the idle screw too far in when bench syncing which has not given you any room to lower it (the throttle bodies are not even able to close fully). I accidentally bench synced my carbs leaving myself no room to lower the idle... The cable could also be binding - but if when you push the throttle (decelerate) all the way forward there is slack in the throttle cable, then you might have to change the throttle position in all of them leaving yourself plenty of breathing room with the idle screw this time.
Hope that made sense.
Also check for vacuum leak as someone said, and binding cables...

Thanks for all the replys. Really appriciate it.
Well i did notice that the big 'o-ring' thinghy was a bit 'sketchy'. Dont know what its called but it this one:
www.billedeupload.dk/upload/files/2010-04/de204770.jpg
Could that cause a vacuum leak and could that be the reason for the extremly high idle?
I also replaced the pilot passag plugs (thoose small rubber plugs):
www.kz400.com/Carbs/Rubber%20caps.jpg
I could not find the original plugs so i bought some other ones that did not fit and trimmed them to fit. If perhaps i did a lousy job trimming them, could that cause the high idling?
And i think its pretty wierd that nothing happens when i turn the idle screw.
And i am sorry but i am a totally noob so i have no idea what it means to bench sync the carbs?
Cheers,
Martin
